Happy New Year

Alright, this isn’t going to be a long sappy new year story.. quick and simple. It was a busy year in 2009, between taking a couple vacations, to finding out I am going to be a father, working long hours putting together different computer systems,Â seeing my unborn children on an ultrasound, flying to Seattle, my grandfather dying and speaking to my father for the first time in 13 years. Much has gone on and it has flown by. I cherish all the moments I have had and look forward to the new ones to come. I am glad to see 2010 arrive while I sit here with some of my closest friends celebrating the new year. I look forward to finally becoming a father and holding my children and all the wonderful things that will bring. 2010 will surely be different than 2009, but I cant wait to get moving on it!

Happy Thanksgiving

I have a lot of reasons to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I am thankful for a loving wife who loves me with all her heart and thinks the world of me. She supports me and believes in everything I can do. I am thankful for my babies, Samantha and Alexis. They might not know it yet but I love them with all my heart and would do anything for them. I am thankful for a great mother who has taught me all of the values which have made me the man I am today. For Ron, my dad, for being there for me, and taking the role of my dad when my other one wasnâ€™t there. I am thankful that he is still alive after his heart surgery this past week, that he was able to hear that I was going to have 2 little girls and to hear how happy he was when he heard the news. I am thankful for my brothers and sisters, who all go out of there way to make sure others are taken care of in a time of need and put others before themselves. I am thankful for my entire family, who come together in times of need, to help others who need help. I am thankful for my friends who are always there for me and fill our moments with unforgettable memories.

When you are thankful of something, that is because someone gave you a reason to be thankful. Which means they were giving you thanks, making you â€œthank fullâ€â€¦.. thus the term Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving many people take their time to reflect on what they are thankful for and it is a compilation of everything everyone has given to them since last Thanksgiving. One day of an entire year is when this happens. It should be more than that. When someone gives you a reason to be thankful, thank them then, and when an opportunity presents itself where you can give them a reason to be thankful for something you have given them, do not hesitate. Do it! It becomes and endless cycle of thanks giving, and the world becomes a better place.

To everyone and everything I am thankful for this Thanksgiving, I hope I have been able to give something back to you to be thankful for. As well, I make a promise to you that I wonâ€™t just let you know how much I appreciate you and everything you have done for me on just one day of the year, but when you have given me a reason to thank you, thus continuing the cycle of Thanksgiving!

Jackie’s Family Reunion

Today we went to Jackieâ€™s family reunion. We got to mingle with her family and talk to all her relatives who have twins as well and get some pointers. We saw a bunch of twins running around and it made both of us happy. We just simply canâ€™t wait any longer.

This is actually pretty nice. A little desktop application where I can open a small editor and start typing.

As part of an initiative at work fro exploring some of the â€œLatest Technologiesâ€ I am starting my downloading, installing of applications and signing up for everything on the internet. I have already setup a twitter account.. which so far I find useless and already had a couple people I dont know, nor care for following me.. kinda creepy.. Ill prolly get rid of that..

So anyways.. Iâ€™ll try to keep you all updated.

Good Old Detroit

Well today I went out to discover old industrial Detroit with Geoff. This was my first “real” time going to for a photo shoot with my new camera. I had gone out before and snapped a bunch of pictures but I didnt really know what I was doing at the time other then pressing the button. Overall the experience was interesting. Detroit, which at one point was a heavy industrial powerhouse is now in shambles compared to what it once was. Buildings torn down, busted out windows and garbage everywhere. It was almost a depressing time see what Detroit once was to what it is now. Next time we go out we need to hit up some of the newer downtown scenes where things have started to pick up and capture some more “uppy” pictures. Well, I wont leave you waiting, here are the photos.

Zenphoto Upgrade

Well I just upgraded Zenphoto now as well to the latest version. I finally sucked it up and came to terms that the apostrophe problem will not be fixed. I lost all the comments for those folders which I was going to be ok with, what I didnt expect was when I change the folder names, the modified date on the folder changes, and according to zenphoto, so does the album, so it went and called all those albums new, which then I had to use manual sorting and move about 20 albums all around to get them into the right location.. What a PITA.. that sucked..

Impressions… it is definately heavier than the previous version.. and I would say it runs slower than the version I was running(1.0.8) but that was expceted.. by me at least. Big difference between the versions..

Oh well.. all is set now for the future and beyond.. Now I just gotta start adding stuff to the site..

Oh!.. and I know none of the pics show up on the blog section anymore.. havent figured that one out yet.. Maybe I will.. maybe I wont.. We’ll see..

Running

Well over the weekend I went out and bought some new running shoes and intended on running Sunday. Well the weather wasn’t all that hot down around here.. and by hot I mean good to run in… it was definitely hot outside.. but the tornado sirens and throwing winds didn’t really make for good running weather..

But today I ran.. for the first time in over 5 years, I went out for a run. NOW. I have been to the gym an awful lot over the past 4 years. I am down from 198lbs down to 168lbs and I am in my best shape since high school. However, this was all done in a gym on elliptical machines and treadmills, never outside.

I was skeptical what my time would be. I was hoping for 7:30 to 8:00 but I was going to be thrilled with 9:00, considering its been 5 years since I have “gone for a run” and since 10th grade since a timed mile. Over 10 years. My time was 8:01. Not bad. I am going to try to improve on it, and with a little bit of conditioning I think I can get to where I want to be.(I haven’t been to the gym since the end of my biggest loser competition at work(2 months, see a few posts down)) .

I am really happy with that time. Jackie ran with me, she is training for a full marathon. She beat me by 11 seconds. I tried to catch her but the closer I got, the farther away she was, I couldn’t gain on her. She is an amazing runner. Well this is just the beginning. I hope to eventually build my time back down to 7:00(6:59 is my goal) I don’t think it will be all that hard. The muscles weren’t really tired at all, but my breathing and endurance was Achilles’ heel(get it…. lol.. ok sorry) I couldn’t suck in enough air.

Now I did a timed mile my first time out because I wanted to see progress of me… average health male to average active athletic male to runner. In 1 month I am going to time myself again and ever month after I will run at least 1 timed mile. Like I said above, I am going for sub 7 min, once I get my speed where I want it I am going to start for distance/endurance, I want my 3 mile time to be 20 – 21 min. which I would be absolutely thrilled with. That would put me just below my high school pace.

Well it’s all for talk now. Now I gotta do it. lets see if I got it in me.

We went off roading in Paul’s new Jeep today. Chris brought his as well. It was definately an interesting day. Here is the review

Paul sees a mud puddle. Makes Chris go first.
Chris makes it through.
Paul makes it through.
They go back through it to the next puddle. (Paul makes Chris go first)
Chris makes it….Paul doesn’t
Paul’s car stalled and wont start
Chris burns clutch trying to get Paul out
Paul’s jeep starts up.
We dig him around Chris’s jeep
Paul pulls Chris’s jeep out and home
Paul realizes he had Traction Control on….

Ill bet you thats the last time he forgets that.
